Compassion & COVID-19

This pandemic has been hard on everyone, but especially so, for those who have had to close their businesses or have lost jobs. Our ministry assists agencies and churches in providing basic necessities to the families in their care in crises like these. Since the beginning of COVID-19 (excluding the shutdown in April), we are distributing 2.3 times as many items. These items reach an average of 136 families per month. As the need for necessities has dramatically increased since the start of the pandemic, we look to our Rochester community to support our mission.

We recently sent out a post expressing the importance of giving to charitable organizations during this pandemic and beyond. Many of us are familiar with the CARES act, which sent Americans each an economic stimulus check. However, two provisions in the act are less known. In an article written by Kevin S. Cooman from the McConville Considine Cooman & Morin, P.C. law firm in Rochester, New York, he states that the two provisions in Sections 2204 and 2205 of the CARES act were designed to encourage charitable giving to hospitals, programs serving those with chronic needs, and emergency relief organizations like the Salvation Army and Red Cross.

Mothers In Need of Others (MINO) is a conduit for those donations. We are an emergency assistance program helping churches and crisis intervention programs like the Salvation Army and Red Cross (and many others!) to meet the needs of the families in their care by providing them with donations of baby gear, baby care items, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. These items are offered to case managers free of charge and are delivered directly to the families for their privacy and convenience. Please help us to help the over one hundred agencies and churches we collaborate with throughout Monroe county in meeting the needs of the under-resourced during COVID and for years to come!

If you have material goods to donate — baby items, personal and feminine hygiene products, and cleaning and paper supplies— please call (585) 348-8596 to schedule a time to drop them off at our Resource Center.

To make a financial contribution, please make the check payable to “Project URGE, Inc.” with “MINO ministry” on the memo line and mail directly to Project URGE Inc, at 1 Favor St., Rochester NY 14608. Or donate on Project URGE's PayPal account on MINO’s behalf on URGE's website at https://projecturge.org/mino-1
